Janie and I launched Where The Fox Hat in summer 2009 with a small range of pieces that we design and make ourselves.  These include stylish fox fur hats, woollen blanket cushions and bags, boot tree table lamps and a range of delicious jellies.

The hat idea hit us in spring 2009 during a travel writing assignment in Quebec in February 2009 where it was -18C  Although warm under layers of cashmere and impossibly thick long-johns, the extreme cold numbed the tips of my gloved fingers as I grasped the back of a dog sled on a frozen lake in Mt Tremblant’s Laurentian Mountains. 

But despite the searing, flesh-numbing temperatures my old fur hat kept my head warm. While the hat, which I made years ago after my lurcher ate the original, was coveted by dog-mushers, it was also a revelation on Tremblant’s ski slopes.

When I got home we began designing and making others and so a family business gathered pace in a workroom at our home in Ellingstring in the Yorkshire Dales.  This is where we live with two daughters, an assortment of horses, ponies, dogs and fowls and a few boats and canoes.
